posted on April 30, 2006

It was a beautiful day at Lancaster Raceway Park for the season opener. LRP was host to the Modifieds in there 40 lap feature, Sportsman, Super Stocks and Street Stocks.

In the first feature of the night, Vinny Christiano won the race after some drivers had rough rides. Mel Raab rolled his car about 6 times in the heat and there were plenty cautions in the feature. Vinny Christiano came out victorious dedicating his win to his father who was in the hospital earlier in the week.

More and more drivers are entering the Street Stock division at Lancaster. Joe Mergl, Scott Mutka and Tom Agen were all looking fast in there heats. Joe Mergl started on the pole and led for some laps. Tom Agen passed Joe and captured the lead. Mergl fell back to 3rd and Mutka advanced to second. Jeff Madill was fast and ended up forth. Mike Maggiore, Russell Knutsen and Jim Stein all had good runs coming in the top 10. Bobby Hanel Jr drove his dad's big bad #33x after his car had some problems in practice. He had a good race coming in 13th.

After an exciting heat race, Jay Mudra and Wayne Benrhard started 1 and 2 for the feature. 12 cars made the show with some new faces such as George Roesch, Rick Widmer and Frank Batista. Mudra kept the lead from the start but Wayne Bernhard was putting some pressure on him early. Mudra won the race with Mike Scott riding in 3rd and Evans in forth. George Roesch made had a great opening race coming in 5th.

Frank Booker won both his heat race and the feature in the Sportsman division. It was his second career win. Nick Cappelli proved why he is a past champion coming in second after his leave from Lancaster in 2005. Cappelli and Booker raced hard until the finish with Booker staying low and Cappelli taking it to the high side. Ed Murray was having a good run until the last lap when he spun right the finish line. Weber also spun. Booker was victorious.

Quite a few "unusual" drivers ran the Modified event. Big Buck Catalano was looking very strong after winning his heat and starting up front. McGrath took the lead and never looked back. Sege Fidanza was running great until he made contact with the 4 and went hard into the back stretch wall. Buck Catalano tried to catch McGrath in the extended 40 lap feature but came up short. Tom McGrath's car was in his words, "Perfect"
