Buck Catalano wins the Bud 50
Alix, Cappelli, Johnson, Agen and Wollaber all come home victorious.

The clouds rolled over Lancaster Raceway Park and a few small sprinkles fell but the show was completed. On hand this week were the Mighty Modifieds, Late Models, SST Sportsman, Super Stocks, Street Stocks, and TQ Midgets. With a full card of events, the show was hurried along and actually finished around 10:15pm.

The first feature of the evening was the TQ Midgets. Chris Bandelian started out front but quickly fell as the battle for the lead was on. Arik McGruder got first but that only lasted a few laps as Wayne Turnbull got around him on lap 4. Dave Wollaber quickly moved through the field to the front and took the lead on lap 6. Once Wollaber got the lead, it was smooth sailing to the finish. Wollaber won with Turnbull, McGruder, Christiano Jr., and Holmes rounding out the top 5.

The tough nuts of the Street Stock division came out next for their feature event. Bob Blaszak Jr. started on the pole with 22 cars behind him. Early on, Tom Agen Sr. and Cory Gallagher seemed to have the best cars as they moved to the front pack. On lap 8, John Hewson spun in turn 2 bringing out the caution. On the restart, Agen remained the leader and had to hold off pressure from Gallagher and Jankowiak. Jankowiak moved up to second and tried to get around Agen on the high side in the remaining few laps, but Agen pulled away and went on to win his first feature of the 2007 season. Jankowiak, Gallagher, Julicher, and Madill rounded out the top 5.

The Super Stocks came out next. Dave Johnson started on the pole. Early on, Bernhard, Mudra, Canonico and Roesch all spun in turn 2. Canonico and Mudra retired from the race. This left only 4 cars on the track. Johnson remained the leader. Wayne Bernhard was second and tried running the high line to get around Johnson. Johnson and Bernhard ran side by side from lap 15 until the finish and Johnson was able to win by half a car length.

21 cars started the SST Sportsman feature. Russ Gian started on the pole and led early on. Nick Cappelli got around Gian on lap 7 to take the lead. Billy Burd moved up to second and Erick Rudolph was third. Nobody could catch Cappelli as he drove to the checkers in the top spot. Burd, Rudolph, MacLeod and Rutherford rounded out the top 5.

The second last feature of the night was that of the Late Models. Jeff Brown started on the pole in a 12 car field. On lap 2, Tommy Reese spun down the backstretch bringing out the caution. On the restart, Matt Alix got around Brown and took the lead. As Jeff Brown fell through the field, Bobby Weber moved up to second. Now the battle was on for second as Weber and Hoddick both wanted the spot. Hoddick ended up getting around Weber but Hoddick couldn't catch Alix as Alix went on to win the race. Hoddick, Weber, Nurmi, and Skora rounded out the top 5.

The final feature of the night was that of the Mighty Modifieds. Tom McGrath started on the pole in a 17 car field. McGrath held the lead early and started to pull away from the other cars. On lap 26, Rick Kluth spun in turn 1. Now that the field was bunched up, McGrath, Catalano and Rudolph were the top 3 cars. McGrath remained the leader but on lap 43, McGrath cut a tire down in turn 3 and spun bringing out the yellow. Now Buck Catalano was the leader with Rudolph, Fidanza and Hossfeld all behind him. Catalano stayed in the lead until the finish as the battle for second was heating up between Rudolph and Fidanza. Rudolph held his position in second and Fidanza finished third. Hossfeld and Hebing rounded out the top 5.

Next weekend, Lancaster isn't running Stock Cars. The next Stock Car Event is September 8th as AAA presents the Mr. Modified 50.
