Leaty, Nurmi, Murray, Bernhard, Jankowiak and Haniszewski all come home with victories.

Lancaster Raceway Park was host to the Mr.Modified 50 on August 4th. It was a full card as the Late Models, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders joined the Mods in the racing action. Fans were treated to a terrific show and possibly, one of the best modified races anyone has seen in a while.

The first feature of the night was that of the Crazy 4 Cylinders. They lived up to there name as many cars went "agricultural racing" and many bumpers were torn off. Tim Haniszewski got the lead early. Charles Buchanan III drove his way from mid pack to 2nd and challenged Haniszewski for the lead. A lapped car came into play and Buchanan got around Haniszewski but a few laps later, Haniszewski passed Buchanan to grab the lead back. Haniszewski went on to win the race. In his first ever race, Buchanan got the runner up spot.

28 cars started the Street Stock feature with Jim Bryant on the pole. The caution flag flew early on lap 2 as Joe Light and Jeff Guidotti got together in turn 3. Guidotti stayed on the track and was able to finish the race. Just two laps later, John Julicher Jr. flew up turn 4 and hit the outside wall hard with the side of his car. Bryant remained the leader until lap 13 when Jankowiak got around him. Garlock moved up to second, but nobody could catch Jankowiak as he went on to victory lane. Garlock, Bryant, Mutka and Knutsen rounded out the top 5.

The Super Stocks were up next. 10 cars started the race. Wayne Bernhard got the lead early, but Frank Batista Jr. followed right in his tracks. On lap 6, Terry Cochrane (driving Mudra's car) spun in turn 2. Bernhard remained the leader with Batista behind him. Bernhard had a decent lead on Batista and went on to win another feature. Batista, Roesch, Widmer and Canonico rounded out the top 5.

The SST Sportsman hit the track next. Ed Murray started on the pole with Russ Gian to his outside. Murray held the lead early on but Kirk Rutherford and Erick Rudolph were flying through the field. Around lap 11, Rutherford and Rudolph got around Murray. On lap 12, Cappelli, MacLeod and Burd all got collected in turn 3. On the start, Rutherford kept the lead but Rudolph went to the outside lane. Rudolph tried to pass Rutherford many times using the high lane, but couldn't get around Rutherford. On lap 19, Rudolph smashed the outside turn 2 wall. Rutherford got penalized 2 spots. This put Murray back in the lead who was running 3rd. Murray took home the win with Rutherford, Booker, Hogan and Wozniak rounding out the top 5.

The second last feature of the night was that of the Late Models. Scott Skora started out front in a 14 car field. Nurmi got out front early as Skora had some problems with his car. Todd Hoddick was moving up the field and got around Weber for 2nd on lap 15. Hoddick tried to reel in Nurmi but couldn't catch him as Nurmi went on to win. Hoddick, Weber, Alix and Carbone rounded out the top 5.

The mighty Modifieds were the final feature of the night. 17 cars started the race with Buck Catalano starting on the pole. Chuck Hossfeld moved up to second and battled Catalano for the lead. On a restart, Hossfeld got around Catalano on the high side. Sege Fidanza and Catalano battled for second and Fidanza moved up to the second position. Hossfeld and Fidanza battled for the lead spot with Fidanza on the outside and Hossfeld on the low side. This went on for many laps but Hossfeld kept the lead position. Jan Leaty was starting to move up the field and passed Catalano and Fidanza and set his sights on the leader. With a couple laps left, Leaty got around Hossfeld on the outside and won. It was quite possibly one of the best modified races at Lancaster is a long time.

Next Weekend is the Sunday Niagara Car Show.
