Nurmi, Dolphin, Scott and Garlock pick up Robosaurus Victories!

posted on July 15th

This weekend at LRP, it was Robosaurus Night and the little ones were in full attendance. Robo slept in the corner for most of the night until the kids woke him up which was pretty cool. All the kids were really into it and the place was packed but all I cared about was the racing.

In the Street Stocks, Joe Light started on the pole with Gary Bartella on his outside. As Joe Light fell through the field, Bartella captured the lead. It did not take long until the front runners Jim Bryant and Tim Garlock would change that though. Jim Bryant got the lead on lap 11 with Garlock racing him hard on the outside for many laps. A caution with 4 to go would end all the side by side racing and Garlock was declared the leader at the time. Bryant was close behind in second but could not catch the 88 as Tim Garlock went on to win his first feature of the season. Jim Offhaus returned to LRP in dominant fashion coming in third, Madill was forth and Bartella held on for fifth. Tom Agen Sr had motor problems which put him many laps down and Jim Stein was driving Bob Hanel Sr's car and had some transmission problems. Joe Mergl had some bad luck as he hit the backstretch wall early.

The Super Stocks were up next and Jason Gwin was on the pole with Mike Scott on his outside in a 13 car field. Mike Scott captured the lead early as Gwin began to fall slowly through the field. Mike Scott quickly got a sizeable lead from the pack as Doug Evans and Wayne Bernhard were battling for the second position. Frank Batista got up to forth and George Roesch held the fifth position. Mike Scott went on to win his first race of the season. Evans, Bernhard, Batista and Roesch rounded out the top 5. Jay Mudra and Ed Lechner were missing.

In the Sportsman, Craig Dolphin quickly got the lead from Ed Weber. Weber gave Dolphin a shot in turn four put Dolphin made a great save. As Weber fell through the field, Dolphin remained the leader but Frank Booker was on the charge. Nick Cappelli was involved in a caution as he hit the two cars that caused the caution on the slow down lap. The pace car came charging out of the pit and had to pass cars on the track which was really dumb as all it had to do was wait until the field came back around. Craig Dolphin was still the leader with Booker behind him and Gian in third. Billy Burd and Russ Gian were racing really hard for the third position but Gian got it. Craig Dolphin went on to win his first race this season with Booker, Gian, Shepker and Burd rounding out the top 5.

Robosaurus was up next and it was a good show. The little kids really liked it but personally, I thought the new voice was kinda dumb. The car burning was the best part as it usually is and overall, the show was alright. I'd rather see the Modifieds race which is why I'm going to Wyoming County Speedway today for Modified Mania. It starts at 2:30pm and I hope to see everyone there.

The final feature was the 9 car Late Model race. Mark Pennell was on the pole and lead some laps until he began to fall through the field and George Skora spun him. Pennell and G.Skora were both sent rear. Ron Nurmi was the leader and Scott Skora was reeling him in but could not get it done and Nurmi won. Scott Skora, Bob Weber, George Skora and TJ Johnson rounded out the top 5. George Skora recovered from his black flag and got a great forth place finish.

Next weekend at Lancaster, the Modified will be back. Sunoco presents Mid Season Championships with Skydivers. It should be a good show. Hope to see you there.
