Weber, Burd, Bernhard and Knutsen all winners on a chilly June Night. posted on June 10, 2006 Lancaster finally got another Saturday night show in but was it a cold one. The Modifieds were off but the Late Models had there special 40 lap feature for $1000 to win. Only 15 Late Models showed up for the show which was much to my surprise. The first feature of the night was the street stocks and was it an exciting one. The race started out with Andy Jankowiak and Bob Hanel Sr on the front row. "Andy J" got and early lead and Bob ran comfortably in second in the first few laps. Some good cars started in the rear such as Bobby Hanel Jr who cut a tire trying to get through the field. Russell Knutsen, Tom Agen and Mike Maggiore all found themselves in the front with only about 8 laps to go. Russell Knutsen picked up the victory which was his first since 2002. In the Super Stocks, the field may be small, but the racing is always good. Frank Batista was on the pole after winning his heat. 12 cars started the feature and Jay Mudra was missing again. Frank Batista had a pretty good lead on the rest of the field as Mike Scott and Wayne Bernhard were battling for second for many laps. Wayne got around Scott and now has his eyes set on Batista. Bernhard got the lead with only about 5 to go. Batista stayed close behind him but wasn't able to recapture the lead as Bernhard picked up his second victory of the year. Batista was second with Scott, Johnson and Sharpe rounding out the top 5. The sportsman show was a good one too with some Spencer invaders coming out to Lancaster. Ed Weber was on the pole with 17 cars behind him. Nick Cappelli spun and got some rear end damage but was able to stay out on the track. Billy Burd got the lead from Weber about half way into the feature. Jerry Gradl got his way up to second. With about 9 to go, Kirk Rutherford and John Barber spun down the front stretch. Burd kept the lead with Jerry right on his tail with Gian third, Hebing forth and Hammond fifth. The last feature of the night was the special 40 lapper for the Late Models. Mike Ticco was on the front row with Eldon King. King pulled off early. Ron Nurmi found an early lead but short after Bob Weber captured the lead and it was all over. George Skora tried to reel Weber in but he couldn't as Weber picked up his second victory of the year in only 3 events. Next Weekend at Lancaster, we have the Nostalgia Day starting at 1pm - 4pm. The rescheduled Bud Modified 50 is on plate but only the Modifieds will run heats.
