Hoddick, Rutherford, Batista, Garlock and Haniszewski cross the line first at Lancaster!

It was a chilly night at Lancaster Raceway Park and the racing took longer than usual with many blown motors, transmissions and accidents. All in all, the racing was still good and it was almost a laughable situation during the heat races with the cautions.

The first feature of the of the night was the Fast and Furious 4 cylinders. The race started with 3 cautions within the first lap and the race was shortened to 12 laps instead of the originally scheduled 20. Tim Haniszewski Jr. found himself out front and held off pressure from Bob Wodzinski and Don Roesch to capture his first 4 cyl win.

The tough nuts of the Street Stock division hit the track next. Joe Light started out front with 22 cars behind him. The caution flag flew early on lap 4 when Tom Agen Sr. hit the turn 2 wall and plowed the foam. Tim Garlock got around Light early to get the lead. On lap 9, Mutka blew a tranny and the caution came out. The top 4 was Garlock, Madill, Gallagher and Hanel Jr. Jeff Madill was working the outside and tried to pass Garlock but couldn't get it done. Garlock won his second feature in a row with Madill, Julicher, Jankowiak and Hanel Jr. rounding out the top 5.

Frank Batista started on the pole for the Super Stock feature in a 8 car field. On lap 3, James Kron got loose coming out of 4 and bumped the outside wall. Bernhard moved to second and put some pressure on Batista, the current leader. Johnson moved to second a few laps later and Batista got a decent sized lead on the field and went on to win his first feature of the year. Batista missed last week with a blown motor and thanked Bernhard for letting him borrow one. The top 5 included Batista, Johnson, Bernhard, Roesch and Kraemer.

The SST Sportsman were up next. Sherri Hogan started out front. 11 cars started the race as MacLeod and Doktor DNS. Craig Dolphin got the lead early from Hogan. On lap 6, Hogan spun in turn 2. Just one lap later, Ed Murray got loose coming out of 4 and smashed the turn 4 outside front stretch wall. Dolhpin remained the leader, but Rutherford moved his way up to second and got around Dolhpin. On lap 16, Ed Weber spun in turn 2 to bring out the caution. Billy Putney, who was driving the Frank Booker Jr. car, moved up to third. Rutherford went on to win with Dolhpin, Putney, Burd and Gian rounding out the top 5.

Tommy Reese started on the pole for the Late Model feature in a 12 car field. Reese slowly dropped in the field and Jeff Brown got the lead. Todd Hoddick and Brown battled for the lead side by side for many laps and Hoddick finally got around him on lap 15. Hoddick went on to win the race with Brown, Skora, Weber and Nurmi rounding out the top 5.

Next week on Saturday, June 30th the Race of Champions Modified Tour invades the Lancaster 1/2 mile oval for the Firecracker 75 lap race. The SST Sportsman, Super Stock and Street Stock classes will also be in competition.
