Erick Rudolph Wins SST 50. Ron Nurmi returns to Late Model Victory Lane

Dunn Tire Raceway Park had its second stock car event of the season May 24th. On card were the 4 Cylinders, Street Stocks, SST Sportsman 50, and the Late Models made their return to the speedway.

The first feature out on the track were the 4 Cylinders. It was an exciting race as cars were beating and banging the entire race. Jesse Baker was able to get out front of all the mayhem and take home the win in his #79. The Haniszewski father and son combo rounded out the top 3.

Next out on the track were the Street Stocks. Gary Denea started on the pole with Jeff Guidotti to his outside. Early on, Jim Bryant took the lead but had Scott Mutka hounding him in second. On lap 9, Mutka caught the back of the Bryant machine and rode up on the back of his car launching the Mutka car into the air. Bryant lost a tire in the wreck but was able to head back to the pits and repair the car. Mutka was done for the evening. Since Bryant and Mutka were the top 2 cars, after this caution, it put John Julicher Jr. in the lead. Julicher was able to hold off the rest of the cars in the feature and took home the win. There was a battle for 3rd on back as Hanel, Denea and Jurek were all battling for position. Maggiore, Jurek, Hanel and Denea rounded out the top 5.

The Late Model division made its return to the speedway in the next feature. Todd Hoddick started on the pole and only 10 cars started the feature. Early on, Hoddick slowly fell through the field as Scott Skora took the lead. Ron Nurmi was sitting second and on lap 20, he was able to get around Skora and take the lead. Nurmi went on to lead the rest of the race and go on to win. Scott Skora, Alix, Rich Skora and Hoddick rounded out the top 5.

The SST Sportsman 50 was the final race of the night. Erick Rudolph started on the pole, with Craig Dolphin to his outside. 15 cars started the feature. On lap 1, Andy Jankowiak and Tom McGrath got together in turn 3. Rudolph remained the leader. Nobody could catch Rudolph and he went on to lead all the laps and win the feature. Craig Dolphin was sitting second for a majority of the feature, but got loose in turn 4 and ended up finishing 9th. McGrath, Rutherford, Gian and Hogan rounded out the top 5.

Next Saturday - May 31st
