Rutherford, Bernhard, Gallagher and Hirsch capture wins on Monster Truck Night! Lancaster Raceway Park was host to another Saturday Night show this weekend. Late Models and Modifieds were off the schedule but Monster Trucks were on hand. Also, Lancaster has a new Lap Counter! The stands were quite full and the racing action was exciting, and caution filled. The Wacky 4 Cylinders had the first feature of the evening. The division is gaining popularity as 13-15 cars showed up. Once again, not much is known about the division. Some of the drivers are still unidentified, but its usually an exciting feature. In the beginning of the race, the #9 car got an early lead, and he led the majority of the feature. Near the end, #17, Brandon Hirsch, was charging hard to the front and was able to get around the #9. Lapped traffic was a factor in deciding this, but none the less, Brandon Hirsch came home with the victory. The McGard "Tough Nuts" of the Street Stock division once again showed why they are tough in a caution filled feature. The race started with veteran Joe Light on the pole and Ed Nowak to his outside in a 26 car field. On lap 4, Steve Cochran spun bringing out the caution. Joe Light remained the leader, with Gary Bartella second and Cory Gallagher third. Just one lap later, Wayne Lavis spun in turn 3 and collected a few drivers. Bob Hanel, Russell Knutsen and Bob Blaszak all retired from the race with damage. Just 4 laps later, the caution flag flew once again as John Julicher Jr spun out right in front of oncoming traffic after scrapping the inside wall. Tom Agen Jr plowed the #9 and Ed Nowak spun and caught the inside front stretch wall. After all of this, Joe Light remained the leader, but not for long. Cory Gallagher was able to get his car around Light with 10 to go. Tom Agen Sr moved to second, and Jim Bryant was now in third place. Agen tried to reel in Gallagher, but came up short. Cory Gallagher went on to win his first street stock feature. Congratulations Cory! Up next were the Ray Laks Resale Super Stocks. 6 cars were on hand for the feature, but the racing remained exciting. George Roesch started on the pole and lead the majority of the feature with Bernhard and Johnson on his tail. With 5 to go, Dave Johnson tried to go low on Roesch in turn 1, but Johnson's car lifted up onto Roesch's and they got "stuck together" down the backstretch. Johnson pulled off and Roesch lost many positions, putting Wayne Bernhard in the lead, and Batista second. Bernhard cruised to his 23rd victory in his Lavender #23. The 50 lap SST Sportsman feature was the final feature of the night. 13 cars started with Russ Gian on the pole, and Sherri Hogan to his outside. Gian remained the leader up until lap 16 when Mike Stevenson and Mike Bliss spun in turn 3. On the restart, Kirk Rutherford got around Gian. Nick Cappelli was second and tried reeling Rutherford in. Cappelli got right to his bumper with about 10 to go, but Rutherford held his line. Cappelli gave it all he had, but came up short. Kirk Rutherford went on to win his second Lancaster feature in a row. Cappelli, Gian, Murray and MacLeod rounded out the top 5. Winners photos from this race can be found on our flickr page. Next Saturday, Curb Appeal Landscaping presents Stock Car Racing, Demo Derby and Cup Lites. (SST's off). Hope to see you there!!!
