Weber, Rutherford, Batista, Jankowiak, Baker and Turnbull all squeeze in a victory on Championship Night! Once again, the weather wasn't the greatest, but Lancaster still put on a great show. It was championship night for all divisions except the Modifieds. I would like to congratulate all the 2007 Champions, Bobby Weber in the Late Models, Nick Cappelli in the Sportsman, Wayne Bernhard in the Super Stocks, Andy Jankowiak in the Street Stocks, Dave Wollaber in the Midgets, and Don Roesch in the 4Cyl. It was a great regular season! The first feature of the evening was that of the TQ Midgets. 15 cars started the race. Wayne Turnbull got out front early. Dave Wollaber was closing in on Turnbull but late in the race, Wollaber spun coming out of 4. Turnbull remained the leader and led until the finish. Holmes, Schulz, Wollaber and Christiano rounded out the top 5. The 4 Cyl race was once again exciting. The car counts were sort of low, but the racing was still good. The 69 car led early, and was holding the bottom line. Don Roesch and Jesse Baker were behind him trying to capture the lead. In the end, after all the cautions, only 4 cars remained and Jesse Baker ran away with the race. It was Baker's first win in his #79 car. The Street Stock race was up next. Rick Ortwein started on the pole with 25 cars behind him. Ortwein led early but Jeff Madill was charging hard to the front and got around him. Julicher followed. The caution flag flew on lap 16 when the 65 spun down the backstretch. On the restart, Madill held the lead, but in turn 3, Julicher tried to get under Madill and made both cars loose. Andy Jankowiak, who was running third, put his car in the third lane and got around both Madill and Julicher. Andy Jankowiak won his 6th race of the year and the Championship. The Super Stock race didn't take very long as Frank Batista started on the pole and led every lap. 9 cars started the race. Batista won and Bernhard and Roesch were battling for second. Roesch, Bernhard, Johnson and Sharpe rounded out the top 5. 17 cars started the sportsman race. Johnny Barber started on the pole. The caution lap flew early on lap 1 as Sherri Hogan and Ed Weber got together. Gian was pushed up the track into the wall and Cappelli also backed into the wall and was hit by the 7 car. When the racing resumed, Kirk Rutherford was the leader with Rudolph behind him. Rudolph tried to get around Rutherford, but couldn't get it done as Rutherford went on to win. Rudolph, MacLeod, Burd and Barber rounded out the top 5. The Late Model race sure was exciting as Bobby Weber and Todd Hoddick went into the race tied in points. Bobby Weber got the lead early and Todd Hoddick followed behind him. The caution flag flew on lap 20 when Pennell stopped down the backstretch. This created a 5 lap shootout for the win and championship. Weber held his ground and had a great restart. Hoddick tried to reel in Weber, but couldn't get it done as Bobby Weber won the race and Championship. Hoddick, Nurmi, Alix and Reese rounded out the top 5. Next weekend, the stock cars are off. The US Open is being run on Sept 29th and 30th. More details about the US Open are posted in the link on the homepage.
