Chuck Hossfeld wins the Mr.Modified 50! It was another gloomy day at Lancaster Raceway Park. There was a small threat of rain, but nothing fell and the show was completed. The card included Modifieds, Late Models, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinders. The 4 Cylinder division was the first to hit the track. Jerry Carpenter in his #04 car got the lead early. He had some pressure from Dan Wieland's #40 and Jesse Baker's #79. With lapped traffic coming into play, Wieland and Baker tried to use them to get around Carpenter. It was an exciting race until the finish. Carpenter went on to win his first ever 4 cyl race. 27 cars started the Street Stock race. Joe Light started out front with Rick Ortwein to his outside. Ortwein got the lead early. He lead a few laps but Mike Maggiore got around him. The caution flag flew on lap 10 when the 53, 57 and 13 all got together in turn 2. "The Wookie" remained the leader but Mutka and Jankowiak were on his tail. On the restart, Maggiore got passed by both Mutka ad Jankowiak. On lap 14, Bryant spun down the front stretch and Joe Light hit him. Both drivers were ok. Mutka and Jankowiak battled for the lead until the checkers. Mutka was able to keep Jankowiak behind him. This was Mutka's first win of the year. George Roesch started on the pole in the Super Stock race. Wayne Bernhard moved up to second. Roesch and Bernhard battled for the lead the entire race. Roesch was on the inside and Bernhard had the top lane. Roesch would not give up and they battled for many laps. In the end, Bernhard got around Roesch by about a car length. Roesch, Batista, Sharpe and Johnson rounded out the top 5. 16 cars started the SST Sportsman race with Russ Gian on the pole. Erick Rudolph got out front early and lead until the finish. Tom MacLeod had another good run coming in second and Kirk Rutherford came home in the third spot. 15 cars started the Late Model race. Mark Pennell started out front. Bobby Weber got the lead early in the feature. On lap 20, Dan Habuda spun in turn 4. Weber remained the leader and Todd Hoddick moved all the way up to second. Hoddick couldn't catch Weber and Bobby Weber went on to win. Hoddick, Alix, Nurmi, and Brown rounded out the top 5. 15 Modifieds started the Modified feature. Chuck Hossfeld started on the pole. Hossfeld remained the leader early but had pressure from Fidanza who was close behind. On lap 11, Bill Hebing hit the backstretch wall. Hossfeld remained the leader and the caution flag flew 3 laps later when McGrath and Holmes got together in turn 3. Hossfeld was still out front and held off Fidanza to take home the win. Fidanza and Rudolph were battling for the runner up spot, and Fidanza finished second. Rudolph, B.Catalano and P.Catalano rounded out the top 5.
